Mar 12 Team USA Takes Fifth in Solo at FINA World Cup

INDIANAPOLIS – The 2010 FINA World Cup continued this week with Saturday’s action
featuring the solo competition. 2008-U.S.-Olympic-team-member Christina Jones (Fremont, Calif.), represented Team USA and finished the day in fifth place with an overall score of 90.650. The medal stand consisted of Russia’s Natalia Ishchenko (98.250), China’s Xin Shi (96.500) and Canada’s Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon (95.250). Lolita Ananasova of the Ukraine took fourth place with a 92.060.

The FINA World Cup will continue Sunday with the team competition. The elite international competition will run Sept. 16-19 at the Changshu Sports Center in Changshu, China. The event is hosted by the Chinese Swimming Federation and will crown champions in the solo, duet, team and combination events.

The 2010 U.S. National Team is led by Jenny Ekhilevsky, who has coached on the international scene for 11 years and served as the 2008 Netherlands' Olympic Coach, and Kimmy McKinley, a former member of the U.S. National Team. The Team has been training in Santa Clara, Calif., since May.

Michelle Theriault (North Hills, Calif.), and Khadija Zanotto (Los Gatos, Calif.).
