UANA Pan American Age Group Champions Crowned

INDIANAPOLIS – The third UANA Pan American Synchronized Swimming Age Group Championships-- held in Lima, Peru-- wrapped up last weekend with the finals competition in the solo, duet, team and combination events. Team USA was represented by the 2010 11-12 and the 13-15 Age Group National Teams.

In the 11-12 solo finals, Catalina Nedelcu (Riverside, Calif.) finished the day in the first-place position with an overall combined score of 135.375, ahead of Mexico’s Ana Sanchez (131.125) and Columbia’s Juliana Jaramillo (127.696). In the 13-15 solo finals, Marisa Tashima of Lafayette, Calif., finished in second place (144.763) behind Mexico’s Arantxa Gonzalez (144.763). Canada’s Elizabeth Savard followed with 143.173 for the bronze medal.

In the 11-12 duet finals, Team USA’s Olivia Ekberg and Karen Li posted an overall score of
132.858 to finish in first place ahead of Mexico (128.883) and Columbia (127.225). In the 13-15 duet finals, Team USA’s (Rachel Hyon and Marisa Tashima) produced a score of 147.836, which was good enough for a first-place finish in front of Canada (143.702) and Mexico (143.267).

In the 11-12 team event, the United States struck gold with an overall score of 133.50. Mexico (130.70) and Columbia (127.22) also joined the U.S. on the medal stand. In the 13-15 team finals, the U.S. reigned supreme once again with a mark of 152.317 in front of Canada (143.372) and Mexico (142.010).

The 11-12 National Team is coached by Julie Thaden and Sara Lowe (2004 U.S. Olympic Team Member) and has been training in Lake Placid, N.Y., at the Olympic Training Center.

USA Synchro is based in Indianapolis and serves as the National Governing Body for the sport of synchronized swimming, appointed as such by the United States Olympic Committee. It is a membership-based and non-for-profit organization that services the sport from the grass roots level to the National Team. The mission statement of USA Synchro is "to provide leadership and resources for the promotion and growth of synchronized swimming, to achieve competitive excellence at all levels and to develop broad-based participation."
