INDIANAPOLIS – USA Synchro has chosen the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin as its pre-Olympic training base. The 2012 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team will spend time at the facility prior to heading to London for the 2012 Olympic Games.

“We have checked out all the alternative options prior to London and have concluded that the best place for us is the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin,” commented Sandra Mahoney, USA Synchro National Team Director. “The facility is world-class and the country is most welcoming.”

The Team will train at the National Aquatic Centre for two weeks in April 2012, two weeks prior to the Olympic Games and for eight days during the competition. While in Dublin, Team USA will also prepare for competition by performing exhibitions for the general public.

“We are delighted and looking forward to hosting the USA Synchro Team at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin prior to the London 2012 Olympics,” commented David Conway, the Development Manager of the National Sports Campus Development Authority in Dublin. “We will give them a big Irish welcome and look after all their training and family requirements. We also look forward to promoting synchronised swimming in Ireland.”

The National Aquatic Centre expects other teams and individuals to follow the example of USA Synchro and reserve pool time at the National Aquatic Centre in preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games. The Centre was officially opened in 2003 and played host to the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games, the first time the event was held outside of the United States. It also hosted the European Short Course Swimming Championships later that year. Swim Ireland officially launched a High-Performance Unit in April 2010 and conducts training camps for elite swimmers at the Centre.
