US Open Competition Concludes in Irving

IRVING, Texas – The U.S. Open Synchronized Swimming Championships held in Irving,
Texas, wrapped up on Saturday. The event, which attracted international talent, ran July 14-17 at the North Lake College Natatorium.

In Thursday’s junior solo final, Team USA’s Alexa Tchekmarev took home the gold medal with a final score of 157.621. In the junior trio final, MAC Synchro’s Sarah House, Kathleen Lance and Katy Wiita finished on top with 139.695. In the junior-division duet final, Tchekmarev partnered with teammate Alyson Haylor (157.397) to win the gold medal for Team USA. The U.S. Junior National Team also climbed to the top of the podium in the team event with a score of 157.290.

In the senior division, China’s Xin Shi (187.525) took first place in the solo while the United States’ Mary Killman (181.188) took home silver. In the duet, China grabbed first (190.525)
and second (183.925) places while Team USA’s Meghan Kinney and Michelle Theriault (181.625) earned a bronze medal. In the team event, China (190.025) took the top position
followed by the United States (184.500) in second. In the combination finals, China won first place (96.775) again followed by the U.S. in second place (87.113).

The elite international competition attracted nearly 200 of the nation’s top synchronized swimmers as well as notable international talent. United States club teams competed against teams from other countries including Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, Great Britain, Korea and Mexico. The competition was hosted by the Pirouettes of Texas Synchronized Swimming Club and the City of Irving.

The U.S. Senior National Team will continue to represent the U.S. in the FINA World Cup
in Changshu, China, Sept. 13-19. The U.S. Junior National Team will compete in the FINA/eSynchro World Junior Championships Aug. 11-15 in Indianapolis.
