Andrea Nott Blog - Getting The Best of Our Nerves
When you think of a day at the pool, the first thing that comes to mind is probably a lounge chair. But with only 16 days until Opening Ceremonies our days are anything but relaxing (not that it's been easy until now.) Knowing exactly how we feel at this point in the game, a few of the 2004 Synchro Swimmer Olympians came to cheer us on and offer their advice. I swam with the 2004 team as the alternate, so it was great to see them and pick their brains about how they handled the pressures of the last few weeks before the Olympics.
One of the most important things for them, they said, was to make sure to keep a journal or a blog. It is still fun for them to look at now, but it also helped them in Athens to recap at night and remember to take in every moment of everyday. It's so exciting that, if you're not careful, it can go by too fast. Also, they gave us some USA decorations for our Village rooms and suggested sticking all the good luck cards we've gotten up on the walls to remind us of all the support we have.
I told them that I am worrying about having those THIS IS IT thoughts when I should be focusing. They said that for them that happened too, it's pretty unavoidable. But since they were expecting it, it wasn't distracting. They thought it actually helped them! That is good news!
As I write this I am watching the seconds count down to Opening Ceremonies on the little timer in the top corner of my computer screen. I'm getting so anxious! 14 days!
