Clearwater to host 64 teams at GOLD Nationals

Clearwater, Fla. --- The 64-team field is complete for the 2013 ASA/USA Girls’ 18-Under GOLD National Championship scheduled to take place at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla..  The tournament, which features the best 18-Under softball teams in the country, begins Monday, July 22 and wraps up Saturday, July 27 as a new National Champion is named.  To see a list of qualified teams, please click here.

The official start of the GOLD National Championship kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22 as 15 pools of four teams each begin play.  Pool play will continue through Tuesday afternoon with 4:30 p.m. games concluding pool play.  All pool play games will have an hour and forty time limit, and do not count towards a team’s overall seeding in bracket play.   Bracket play begins on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. and will continue through Saturday with  the Championship Game slated for 2:30 p.m. on Field 3.  Pool play and bracket play draws were completed on Sunday evening by tournament officials and coaches.

At the 2012 GOLD National Championship, which was held at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, the Arizona Desert Thunder claimed the title after defeating the Texas Impact GOLD 2-1 in the if-necessary game.  The Texas Impact, who forced the if-necessary game with a 6-0 shut-out win over the AZ Desert Thunder in the Championship Game.
