Missouri’s Ashley Fleming selected as USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week
OKLAHOMA CITY — Ashley Fleming of Silex, Mo. is the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for April 2-8, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced today. Fleming batted .600 for the weekend, recording a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
“I’m so happy for Ashley,” said Missouri Head Coach Ehren Earlywine. “This is a great honor for both Ashley and our program. She’s worked hard to be the player that she has become and I know she appreciates the award a great deal.”
Fleming shined over the weekend, helping Missouri take two-of-three games against then-No. 3 Texas. Fleming hit safely in all three games, driving in eight RBI over the course of the series. She had at least one hit and one RBI in each game for the Tigers, including a series best on Thursday in which Fleming went 3-for-4 with three RBI. In game two of the series, Fleming went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI. At Saturday’s matchup, she helped Missouri clinch the series win by hitting her eighth home run of the season and collecting one RBI.
“With so many great players in the country, it’s a huge honor to be given this award,” Fleming said. “I am glad I was able to contribute to the team’s victories against Texas, and I’m excited to see what the rest of the season brings for this team.”
Fleming is now batting .392 on the season with eight home runs and 32 RBI, leading the team in each category. She now has 35 career home runs, the fourth-most in program history. This marks the second USA Softball Player of the Week award for Fleming, who earned the honor in 2010 for her efforts April 26 – May 2.
