OKLAHOMA CITY – The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced today that Arizona State’s Annie Lockwood (Phoenix, Ariz.) was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for the week of May 2-8. Lockwood helped the Sun Devils sweep then-No. 11 Washington in Seattle, accounting for more than half of the team’s RBI on the weekend. It is the third consecutive conference sweep for the Sun Devils.
The junior outfielder proved to be an integral force at the plate, as she collected six of ASU’s 11 RBI on the weekend along with an intentional walk for a .545 average. She opened up against Washington going 3-for-4 with one run scored, one home run and three RBI for the 6-4 victory.
She was 1-for-3 in Game 2 but also reached base off of an intentional walk. Lockwood came out strong in the third game, helping the Sun Devils secure the series sweep. She again accounted for half the runs in the 6-2 win with three RBI off of two hits.
This is the first time honor for Lockwood and second of the year for Arizona State. Pitcher Dallas Escobedo (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the first USA Softball Player of the Week selection of the season on Feb. 15.
