OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America is pleased to announce that Missouri’s Ashley Fleming (Silex, Mo.) was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Week for her efforts over the week of April 26 – May 2. Fleming hit .769 over 5 games helping lead her team sweep two Big 12 Conference opponents, Iowa State and Baylor.
The sophomore out of Silex, Mo., finished the week with 10 hits in 13 at-bats, which included three doubles and two home runs. She also scored seven times and drove in eight runs, while going a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases. Her on-base percentage for the week was .789, and her slugging percentage was an astounding 1.462.
“I'm very happy for Ashley, the honor is well deserved,” said Missouri Head Coach Ehren Earleywine. “She had a tough freshman season and dealt with some up and downs at the beginning of this year, so I'm glad that she is being rewarded for perseverance."
Fleming recorded at least one hit in all five games last week, which included perfect 3-for-3 days in the series openers with Iowa State and Baylor. In the Iowa State doubleheader, Fleming finished 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, a double, a home run and two walks. In the midweek makeup game against Central Methodist, Fleming went 1-for-2 with a run, a walk and a stolen base. She finished the Baylor series at 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles and four RBI. She is hitting .374 on the season and is tied for the team-lead in home runs with eight, while ranking in at second on the team with 36 runs batted in.
“I am honored to receive this award," Fleming said. "My focus has been to help my team in the most effective way possible. It is a lifetime experience every time I get to step onto the field as a Mizzou softball player and it is an honor to receive an award that so many great athletes have gotten before me."
