OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association announced today the selection of senior Dominique Accetturo (Pembroke Pines, FL.) as the USA Softball National Player of the Week. Accetturo led seventh ranked Alabama to a three-game sweep over second ranked Tennessee, hitting an impressive .417 (5-12) in the series.
Accetturo hit .533 (8-15) during the week and recorded six RBI, including five in the Tide's series against their SEC rival Tennessee. She had three multi-hit games over the four-game span with a slugging percentage of .667 and an on-base percentage of .563.
"I'm so thankful for my teammates and their support," said Accetturo of this first-time honor. "This weekend was amazing and I'm so honored to receive this award."
Accetturo played a key role in the series as she was responsible for either the game-winning RBI or game-winning run in all three victories over the Lady Volunteers. She recorded the game-winning RBI in game one; she also recorded a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth against Tennessee in game two to cut the lead to 4-3. She then came around to score the winning run on the next batter. She also scored the game-tying run in Alabama's final victory over the Lady Vols.
"She's always the first to practice and is always taking extra of whatever we're working on," said Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy. "She's worked really hard in her four years here and has earned all the recognition that comes her way."
Defensively, the shortstop was perfect in the field recording six putouts and registering seven assists without an error.
