March 07, 2006, 2:04 p.m. (ET)

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Amateur Softball Association announced today the selection of Oregon State's Brianne McGowan as the USA Softball National Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 27-March 5.  McGowan was the driving force behind the success of the Beavers this week that included a perfect 5-0 record at the Cal State Fullerton Worth Tournament.

Offensively she led the team with a .700 batting average, six RBI, five runs and a 1.600 slugging percentage, to help OSU extend its overall winning streak to 18 games - just four shy of last season's school record (22).  In the circle, the All-American pitcher from Reno, Nev., held a 0.78 ERA while earning three victories in the tournament.  She totaled 18 strikeouts in 18 innings of work and improved her overall record to 11-1 - including 11 consecutive wins.

"I'm so honored to receive this award.  There are a lot of great players across the country that could have been chosen," said McGowan of this honor, the second in her career.  "It's nice for our team to be recognized nationally."

As a junior, she became just the fourth player in Oregon State history to break the 500- strikeout (502) barrier and moved into fourth place in the Beaver record book for career victories (57).

"This is a great honor for Brianne," said Oregon State head coach Kirk Walker.  "She had a tremendous weekend on the mound and at the plate."
