China claims 5th place with 1-0 win over Great Britain
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- China accepted the fifth place trophy at the II World Cup of Softball presented by Frosted Flakes after winning a close game, 1-0, defeating Great Britain who went 0-5 in the Cup. Great Britain would put two on base in the seventh to try and rally for a win but a strikeout by Lu Wei secured the win for China.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when China was able to push a runner across the plate. Great Britain pitcher Tiffany McDonald hit Xin Minhong and then walked Jiang Xin setting up the bases for Zhang Ai who hit a single scoring the only run of the game.

China’s defense held Great Britain’s offense striking out eight and allowing only two hits the entire game. In the top of the seventh Great Britain would try to come back as China pitcher Yu Huili walked Terra Davenport and Shannon Sullivan singled to center field. With two outs on the board and two runners on China, Lu Wei entered to relieve Huili, who threw 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts.
Wei struck out Leah English to end the game and China (2-4) claimed fifth place in the II World Cup of Softball presented by Frosted Flakes.
