USA Men crush 12 homeruns in Pool Play
ORLANDO, Fla.---The USA Softball Men’s National Team completed pool play with a perfect 3-0 record after defeating Burke Xplosion of North Carolina, 16-0, in four innings in their final game on Friday. Frank DeGroat, Jr. (Ringwood, NJ) and Landy Rodriguez (West Haverstraw, NY) added to their home run totals on the day with one a piece to bring the team total to 12 in just three games. The win secures the U.S. a spot in the upper half of the single elimination bracket that begins on Saturday. The U.S. scored five runs in the first and five runs in the second to put the game away early. The second inning was highlighted by a grand slam home run by DeGroat, Jr., who provided five RBI in the game. Four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth put the game away due to the mercy rule. Travis Price (Santa Ana, Calif.) hurled three perfect innings for the win before being relieved by Cody Thomson (Riverton, Utah) who managed to keep the no-hitter in place.Rey Garcia (North Andover, Mass.) was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI and was followed by DeGroat, Jr., who was 2-for-2 with five RBI. Tom Owen (Elkhart, Iowa) and Chad Boom (Barnesville, Minn.) also contributed two hits in the game.
