On August 14, the two-time defending gold medal winning USA team will begin its journey to an Olympic three-peat as they kick off the Games of the XVIII Olympiad at Helliniko Stadium in Athens, Greece. Set to battle Italy at 12 noon, the Red, White and Blue roster consists of four two-time Olympic gold medalists, two players from Sydney and nine new faces.
Arriving in Athens on July 29, after a 53-game ‘Aiming for Athens’ tour, the team has continued with two weeks of practice before taking the field on the 14th.
"We are ready for this," said two-time Olympic gold medalist Lori Harrigan. "This team has all the tools to take the field tomorrow and begin the journey of a lifetime."
"I can't believe it is finally here, WOW," said leftfielder Jessica Mendoza. "I have been dreaming of this day since I was a little girl and now it is here. Taking the field against Italy is going to be amazing!"
