FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
USARS Announces National Championship Structure
The 2014 USARS National Championship will be open to all women member clubs interested in participating. In the essence of fairness, the registration will be structured using two tiers.
The first tier will include only the teams that have played sanctioned USARS games during the 2014 season and were planning to participate in the Regional qualifiers. These teams will have first and exclusive choice to register between today and July 18th but may also submit their applications later under the restrictions of the second tier described below.
The second tier of registration will be open to all club teams between July 19th and August 15th. The participation requirements have been removed and any USARS member club may submit their application regardless of the number of USARS games played during the season.
Registration will be managed under a first-come-first-serve format and will be closed after 12 team applications have been received. We encourage teams to submit their application as soon as the deadlines for their respective tiers allow it.
The cost to register a women’s team is $500. All money collected from entry fees from women’s teams will be divided between the prize bank and the tournament host club. The prize bank will consist of 50% of all entry fees for the women’s category, with the other 50% going to the host. The tournament champions will receive 50% of the prize bank, with the runner up receiving 30% of the prize bank and the third place receiving the remaining 20%.
The USARS Roller Derby Committee has also decided to offer a Championship for the co-ed category this year. The first 4 co-ed teams to submit their completed application will be accepted.
The cost to register a co-ed team is $300. All money collected from entry fees from co-ed teams will be divided between the prize bank and the tournament host club. The prize bank will consist of 50% of all entry fees for the co-ed category, with the other 50% going to the host. The tournament champions will receive 50% of the prize bank, with the runner up receiving 30% of the prize bank and the third place receiving the remaining 20%.
- 12 women’s teams
- 4 co-ed teams
- ALL charters, memberships and transfers are due by July 18th. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- No maximum number of teams per region
- No minimum games required *
* The USARS Roller Derby Committee has decided that it is in the best interest of teams to play as many games as possible under the USARS rules in order to prepare for a tournament, and thus has modified their approach from requiring games to suggesting them.
