Angelica AlvarezFourteen year old Angelica Alvarez, AKA “Kurupted Flesh Cutie” is featured as the USARS Derby Spotlight athlete for June. Often called KFC, Angelica is part of Bakersfield Junior Roller Derby in Bakersfield, California. She has been participating in roller derby for 3 years now. KFC has shown so much improvement; her determination and love for derby is unbelievable! When there is a time for skating Angelica is skating, she is loved at her local rink at Rollerama 34th St. Angelica works hard to be the best skater she can be. She got MVP twice in the last couple of weeks from the opposing team she played. Roller Derby has helped build Angelica’s confidence and it has helped her ability to communicate with peers and adults.

Favorite derby position (blocker, pivot, jammer): I love to play all positions it makes for a Great Skater


When did you begin skating: about 9 years old


Fondest memory of skating: Skating at a Birthday party holding on to a wall and my mom telling "get up" "get up" you can make it around the rink and sure enough I made it all the way around.


Future goals you hope to obtain as a skater:  To be a Skater for the Angel City Derby Dolls and maybe be an awesome roller derby coach.


Awards, honors and statistics received in roller sports: I've got MVP twice.

Other sports you currently participate in: I love to play Volleyball


Angelica AlvarezWho is your favorite sports figure: My High School teacher Mr. Jamie Cooke He is an amazing Hockey Player he played for the Bakersfield Condors, and continues to play Hockey. Mr. Cooke tells me that I shouldn't just train for aN upcoming game but to stay training.


Who is the person you most admire/greatest influence in your life and why: Well this is going to be hard because I admire my grandma Virginia Hernandez for always giving me advice when she knows I'm having a tough time.  And the greatest Influence(s) in my life would be my Immediate Family they influence me in so many positive ways without them I couldn't be where I am today. I have one amazing Support System!


List your hobbies: Skating, Skating, Skating, and more Skating


What music do you listen to during training or competition? I love to listen to

Old School hip hop. It gets me going.


What makes you a unique and special person: I'm full of life, Live for the Present. My mama always tells me to be me.  I make sure to smile even during the tough times.

Anything else you would like us to know about you: Yes, I want everyone to know no matter how hard something is NEVER GIVE UP.  I never once doubted myself but I did have some fear for the first time, I would get knocked down, and that time came and it made me push harder and harder and I strive to become a great skater. My words to live by STAY HUMBLE! And there is never Two Skaters Alike.
