USA Roller Sports congratulates the Oly Rollers from Olympia, Washington for defeating San Diego Roller Derby and becoming the first USARS Roller Derby National Champions and the first recipients of the Seltzer Cup.  The Resurrection Rollergirls from Rohnert Park, California claimed third place at the inaugural event in Fresno, California last month.

USARS would also like to thank all the participating clubs, officials, coaches, announcers, photographers, broadcast personnel, volunteers, vendors and fans who traveled from far and wide to make this historic event possible; and a special thank you to the NOtown Roller Derby for their assistance hosting the tournament.

“The response we have seen after the Championship has been overwhelmingly positive. The players enjoyed the camaraderie and the style of play, the fans were entertained and the organization of the event went without a flaw”, said Danielle Fairbanks, USARS Roller Derby Director.

“Obviously there were some differences in the level of play, especially during the first round of competition, but even those games were easy to watch, dynamic and action packed. We know that we have a few things to tweak in order to address situations that arise from the dynamic nature of the rules, but overall we are extremely pleased by the way the players were able to showcase the style of play that we are promoting,” continued Fairbanks.

The USARS Roller Derby Sport Committee will review the feedback gathered during the tournaments and establish an actionable plan to introduce a revised version of the rules for the 2013 season.

Dates and locations for the 2013 events are not yet confirmed. Additional information regarding requirements to participate as well as dates will be posted as they become available, but USARS membership will be required so interested clubs are encouraged to obtain 2013 membership status immediately.
