Memphis Invitational a great success!

Feb. 13, 2013, 1:10 p.m. (ET)
CarolineThe Memphis Figure Roller Skating Club under the leadership of elite Coach Caroline Mirelli hosted the Annual Heart of Memphis Invitational on February 1st, 2nd and 3rd.    For the 12th year, skaters traveled to Memphis from as far away as Denver Colorado for 3 days of intense competition.

72 skaters registered for the event and even forecasted freezing rain and ice could not keep them away from East End Skating Center.  Coach Caroline provided the largest group with a remarkable 28 skaters.  Ten of those skaters have never skated competitively!   Six states and nine other skating clubs were represented in a myriad of figure skating events that spanned the three days.  Joe Mack of Mesquite Texas acted as meet director and as the announcer.  The judges included Sylvia Haffke, Gary Callahan, Verna Quaranto, Micheal Vickey and John Cawly as well as many others who stepped in as needed.

Franklin Skate Club under the leadership of Cathy Carmack earned the high point trophy with an incredible 19 gold medals and numerous silver and bronze medals.  The other clubs all fared well and it is safe to say that almost all clubs were represented well.  Between events, skaters and their families were able to visit Graceland and the incredible Memphis Zoo.   The Memphis club thanks everyone for their participation and look forward to many more successful meets.
