USARS Announces 2013 Roller Derby Regional Qualifier Participation Requirements

USA Roller Sports conducted its inaugural Roller Derby Championships in 2012 including competition for women’s flat track roller derby. In 2013, USARS has preliminary plans to expand the Championships to include competition for men and juniors!

The requirements for teams and individuals wishing to participate in one of the USARS Regional Qualifiers in 2013 have been established as follows:

  • Ø All participants (players, coaches, bench managers and officials) must be current USARS members.
  • Ø Players may only participate and play for the Club with which they hold a current USARS membership. For example, an individual wanting to play for the Oly Rollers must be affiliated with the Club Id for Oly.
  • Ø Players must obtain their USARS membership by April 1, 2013 to be eligible to participate at Regional Qualifiers and National Championships.
  • Ø If a player wishes to change USARS clubs, a complete transfer application must be received at the USARS National Office 30 days prior to the Regional deadline (TBD).
  • Ø Only one team per club is eligible to participate per event.
  • Ø The club or team must have participated in a minimum of 2 USARS sanctioned games under the current USARS rules by June 17, 2013. At least one of these games must be inter-league (I.e. against another club).

The USARS Roller Derby Sport Committee is excited to incorporate new improvements to the Rule Book for 2013 and is committed to make it publicly available within the next couple of weeks. The committee is also reviewing the potential sites for the Regional and National events and anticipates announcing those sites and dates in the coming weeks.

The 2013 USARS Championships will consist of Regional qualifier events (most likely held in August or early September) with the top teams from these events moving on to compete for the Seltzer Cup at the National Championship event in October.  More information (including the application process) will be posted as it becomes available.
