USARS Roller Derby Rules Gain Positive Response Following Beta Tests

USA Roller Sports is pleased to announce the completion of the first round of beta-testing of the new USARS Roller Derby Rules, and would like to thank all the participating leagues for their time and invaluable feedback throughout the testing process.

Jessica Wendling, a skater for the Deep South Derby All-Stars, was among the many athletes who participated in one of the beta-testing events organized by USARS. “The new rules introduce some great concepts that make the game very athletic and dynamic,” said Wendling.  “Our league and about twelve other leagues in our surrounding area are very excited about the new rules and are eager to start using them as soon as they are officially released.”

“It is important for us to get leagues of all levels and styles involved in the testing of the new rules so that we can get feedback that is relevant and useful to our goals and to the sport in general,” said Danielle Fairbanks, USARS Roller Derby Director. “We are receiving a very positive response to the rules, but we are also paying a lot of attention to some good ideas provided by the community that might be tested and potentially included in future versions of the rules.”

USARS has not formally announced a date for the release of the first official version of the rules, but is confident that the Roller Derby Committee will deliver their recommendations by the end of this year. Committee members will continue working together with the derby community on the development and improvement of these rules, while also working on the creation of formal programs for coaching, officiating, tournaments and development, among others.

“One of our goals is to present these rules to FIRS -following final approval by USARS- in order to establish the foundation for International Roller Derby Rules, but for now we are concentrating on making these rules safe for skaters, inclusive to all participants and attractive to the fans,” stated Fernando Regueiro, member of the USARS Roller Derby Committee and former member of the Board of Directors for the Windy City Rollers.

Everyone is encouraged to read the most recent version of the USARS Roller Derby Rules and to contact members of the Committee to provide ideas or suggestions.
