Former USARS Athlete Jilleanne Rookard Named USOC Athlete of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced long track speedskater Jilleanne Rookard and long track speedskater Trevor Mariscano as its November Athletes of the Month, while the U.S. Long Track World Cup Team was awarded Team of the Month honors.

Jilleanne Rookard  (Woodhaven, Mich.) returned to the ice after her 2010 Olympic debut in Vancouver and skated to a historic gold medal at the Essent ISU World Cup #2 in Berlin. Her win in the ladies' 3000m (4:04.39) on Nov. 20, was her first-ever World Cup medal. She finished ahead of 2010 Olympic champion Martina Sablikova (CZE) 4:05.83, and 2010 Olympic silver medalist Stephanie Beckert (GER) 4:06.12. The race was the first time a U.S. woman has won a distance race in nearly 31 years. In addition, Rookard secured six top-10 finishes in the first three World Cups of the 2010-2011 season, all held in November.
