Roller Sports mourns the loss of Bert Anselmi; September 12, 2009

ANSELMI, Albert H.  Age 81 of Clarkston, passed Saturday September 12, 2009, after a long struggle with Multi-System Atrophy.  He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lynn, sons Kurt (Terry) and Tobin (Kim), daughters Kim (Mark) Majoros and Holly, his sister Laurene (Archie “Bud”) Patton and grandchildren Terese, Tony, Stephanie, Zachary and Daniel.  He is preceded in death by his parents Alice and Anthony Anselmi.  Albert, in partnership with his Sister and Brother-in-law, Laurene & Archie Patton, owned and operated the Rolladium Skating Center in Waterford for over 50 years.  He directed the Rolladium Skating Club, coaching many National Champions, some who went on to join the USA World Team with Albert also serving as World Team coach.  Albert was a past President of the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association in the early 1970’s when they were one of the largest contributors to the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association.  He was one of several men primarily responsible for the merger in 1972 of the two national roller skating associations which led to the formation of what would become USA Roller Sports, the National Governing Body for roller sports recognized by the US Olympic Committee.   He was past President of the Museum of Roller Skating and a Life Member of the Society of Roller Skating Teachers of America.  He, with his wife Lynn, was inducted into Roller Skating’s Hall of Fame in 1990.   An active community supporter, Albert was a President of the Waterford Rotary, former Waterford School Board member and Honoree of the Waterford Foundation for Public Education.  His is also a life member of the Waterford Elks.  

Funeral Mass: Friday, September 18, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Waldon Rd., Lake Orion, 48360.   

Visitation: Wednesday 3:00-5:00 & 7:00-9:00 and Thursday 3:00-5:00 & 7:00-9:00 at the funeral home and also at church Friday 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Donations in lieu of flowers to: The Roller Skating Museum, The Waterford Foundation for Public Education, or Lake Orion Nursing and Rehab Center (van fund).  Envelopes available at the funeral home.
