Attention Figure Judges and Officials

Dec. 18, 2009, 5:16 p.m. (ET)

Dear Judges and Officials:
As proud individuals in our roller figure skating community, we donate much of our time and energy into a sport that we have loved—many of us for a long, long time--and continue to love.  As we are all aware, it is our utmost goal to maintain a high level of competence in our officials.  To attain this goal, we must take advantage of training opportunities as they are provided.  This is particularly important in a sport that is ever-changing, as ours is.

To both maintain and improve the education and quality of our judges, attendance at the national coaches’ and judges’ conference has been required once in a three year period.

It is even more important to attend the Conference in Biloxi, Mississippi as the new compulsory dances will be discussed.  We can no longer rely on invitational competitions or regional championships to provide us with adequate knowledge or experience for judging the national championships.  We must be more proactive.

I would urge any national or regional judge to consider attending the Biloxi Conference, but in particular those who have not attended in the past three years.

Thank you and we look forward to your attendance in Biloxi!
Sincerely,

John Cawly
Chairman, Figure Judges Committee
USA Roller Sports
