Senior Dance Team Earns Bronze at Figure Championship's End

Nov. 22, 2008, 3:50 p.m. (ET)
The last day of competition in the 2008 Senior World Roller Figure Skating Championship in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, finds Kyle Turley and Heather Menard on the podium with a Bronze Medal in the Senior Dance event. Team USA supporters were on the edge of their seats when the dance team placed 4th in the Freedance. But when the scores for all three segments of the dance event were totaled, Turley and Menard ended up ahead.

Jonathon Cross and Erin Ovens finished 7th after wowing the crowd  when Erin lifted Jonathan. Nicholas Borgese and Lisa Borgese finished 8th after sharing laughs following a dramatic but hopefully painless fall during warmups. Nick and Lisa miscalculated the short floor length, crashed into the soft barrier and emerged from a mass of banners and roping giggling. I think this husband and wife dance team should get an award for having more fun than anyone during the championship.

The dance award ceremony was followed by a closing ceremony which officially closed the championship by passing the flags and responsibility for the 2009 Junior and Senior World Roller Figure Skating Championships to the German Federation for the next event in Frieberg, Germany. Let's start preparing our skaters and resources for the trip to Europe right now.
