Isabella Isaksen Cruises to Finals at Junior World Championships
Isabella Isaksen, Colorado Springs, CO opened with 21 wins in the fencing, good enough for second place in her fencing group. With USA national fencing team member and USA Pentathlon coach James Moody onsite at the event, it was a great start for Isabella who saved her strength and cruised through the swimming and combined events for a fourth place finish in the qualifying, just four seconds off the leader.
In the other qualifying group, Samantha Achterberg, Littleton, CO had a solid day going into the combined event when her gun broke only seconds before the start of the event. She was forced to use Isabella’s weapon which is for left handed shooters with Sammy being a right hand. Unfortunately, this was too much for Sammy to overcome and she failed to qualify for the final.
Isabella will be competing in the women’s final on Saturday while Army PFC Nathan Schrimsher, Roswell, NM and Brendan Anderson, Colorado Springs, CO will be representing the United States tomorrow in the men’s qualification. Unfortunately, Lucas Schrimsher, Roswell, NM who also qualified for the Junior World Championships was forced to withdraw following a knee injury. We wish Lucas a speedy recovery and look forward to him returning next year to compete for Team USA.
