2014 USAP Competition General Information

For Competitions held at the USOTC

USA Pentathlon is proud to have an ambitious schedule of competitions, both for selection purposes as well as to provide competitive training / educational opportunities for Pentathletes of all ages. The following information is provided to help you plan your participation in Pentathlon events held at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.


US National Team Selection Competitions

These are four competitions held in 2014-- January (2 competitions) February (1 competition) and May (1 competition). These competitions will ALL be held at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs (USOTC) and organized by USAP staff. These events are for men and women, with each competition organizing events for Youth, Junior and Senior divisions.

These competitions will be used as part of the USAP 2014 ranking lists for Juniors and Seniors. (See USAP 2014 Selection Systems Juniors and Seniors (see   www.usapentathlon.org ). In addition, there will be a competition for the Youth division held at the same time. While the Youth competitions are not part of the 2014 Youth ranking list or selection system, these events provide a good opportunity to gain valuable experience.


Foreign Athlete Participation

All USAP National Team Selection Competitions while used to rank US athletes, will also allow non-US athletes to participate. This strengthens US competitions and is good for our sport. To enter please contact Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas via email at gsokolovas@gmail.com


2014 USOTC Competition Schedules

Under normal circumstances, normal competitions ( not to include camps or National Championship events) held at the USOTC will be conducted over weekends and organized using the following format.

Thursday and Friday – Arrival and Training All

Friday 6:00PM – Technical meeting (the meeting to confirm entries and announce any important details of the competition such as start times)

Saturday – Womens Divisions Junior and Senior

Saturday – Youth (both genders Fencing and Swimming)

Sunday  -  Men’s Divisions Junior and Senior

Sunday – Youth (both genders Combined event)

Sunday – Youth division training (following Combined event).

Sunday/Monday – Departure All

Housing and Meals

Per our usual protocol, athletes wishing to stay at the USOTC MUST notify Shannon Labianco at least 30 days in advance of the competition to confirm space at the USOTC. After the 30 day window expires, space may be granted on a “space-available” basis. This is an important rule of the USOTC.  Contact Shannon at   slabianco@usapentathlon.org

USAP Membership

All athletes must be members of USA Pentathlon in good standing to be eligible to compete in USAP competitions. See www.usapentathlon.org to join.

Competition Fees

The USAP standard fee for competitions is $50 registration fee plus $50 per division (for example some athletes compete in both Junior and Senior divisions). For athletes staying at the USOTC contact Shannon Labianco at slabinaco@usapentathlon.org  for a competition by competition list of fees USOTC housing and meals.

Laser Pistols

All USAP Competitions held at the USOTC shall use laser pistols and targets. Pistols may be rented for individual use on a “first-come-first serve” basis. Please contact Shannon Labianco to reserve a pistol.


Medical and Insurance 

Medical assistance is provided at all USOTC competitions for emergencies. Secondary insurance is also provided by the USOTC and USAP.
