Buryak claims maiden World Cup series title after taking gold in Women Final

April 19, 2013, 12 a.m. (ET)

23-year-old Ganna Buryak from Ukraine was simply irresistible in the combined event of the World Cup #3 in Chengdu, China, with the 2011 Junior World Championships silver medallist crossing the line in first place to take her place amongst the pantheons of senior champions.

Some sharp-shooting and quick feet in the windy conditions ensured she finished ahead of the Chinese duo of Wanxia Liang and Wei Wang who placed, to the delight of the crowd, second and third respectively. Buryak had earlier come in 26th place in the ride so was not expected to finish anywhere near the front but her sensational time of 13:05:99 round the track made sure of her first title.

Iryna Khokhlova came in fourth place and ride winner Ludmila Kukushkina was fifth. France’s Elodie Clouvel, the dominant force in the pool then made up the top six.
