Isaksen Finishes Strong 5th at Kremlin Cup

In an Olympic tune-up event against 23 of the top competitors she will face in London, Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) showed she is on her way back after battling mononucleosis for much of this year. The 20-year-old two-time Olympian finished an encouraging fifth place on Saturday at the Kremlin Cup modern pentathlon event in Moscow, Russia.

Isaksen finished with a total of 5292 points. She placed fifth in the fencing with 28 wins, 14th in the swim with a time of 2:19.78, had a perfect ride in the equestrian portion of the event, and finished with the sixth-fastest time in the combined run/shoot (12:18.26). Isaksen began the combined event in sixth place and had moved up to third heading into the final lap.

Olympic champion Lena Schoneborn of Germany took first with 5412 points, followed by Hungary's Sarolta Kovacs (5368), Russia's Donata Rimsaite (5232) and Lithuania's Laura Asadauskaite (5308).
