Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) turned in her best performance at a world championship on Saturday with an 11th-place finish at the UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Championships in Moscow, Russia. She placed 12th last year.
Isaksen, 19, earned 5300 total points over the five events. She was 18th in the fencing with 16 victories, 14th in the swim (2:17.73), 19th in the ride with 1160 points and ended the day moving up from 15th position to 11th with a 10th-best time in the combined run/shoot (11:38.00).
Ukraine's Victoria Tereshuk won the gold medal with 5544 total points, followed by Hungary's Sarolta Kovacs (5512) and Lithuania's Laura Asadauskaite (5504). For complete results go to www.pentathlon.org.
The World Championships continue on Sunday with the men's individual final. American Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.) will be in the field of 36.
The UIPM will broadcast the men's final live on Pentathlon TV at www.pentathlon.org Sept. 11. The broadcast will feature highlights of the fencing and swimming events as well as live coverage of the riding and combined event.
