Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) warmed up for next week's World Championships by winning the Polish Junior National Championships on Saturday in Drzonkow, Poland. Six countries competed in the event (Germany, France, England, Latvia, Poland, and the United States).
Isaksen scored 1000 points in the fencing competition with 25 victories and 11 defeats. She placed fourth in the swim with a time of 2:17.16, and totaled 1160 points in the ride after knocking down two rails. That put Isaksen in second place behind reigning Polish champion Oktawia Nowacka heading into the final event, the combined run/shoot.
In the combined event Isaksen overtook Nowacka in the first 1000 meters and easily cruised to the victory with 5380 points. Nowacka was second with 5188 and Natalia Kozuchowska finished third with 5024 total points.
The Modern Pentathlon World Championships begin on Thursday with the women's qualification round. Isaksen will be joined by teammates Samantha Achterberg (Littleton, Colo.), Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md.), Rendy Opdycke (Mercer Island, Wash.), Will Brady (Howell, Mich.), Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo.), Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.) and Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas).
