Chengdu World Cup Set to Begin
The famous Pierre de Coubertin Modern Pentathlon Centre will be the host of the 4th and final World Cup of the year in Chengdu, China, from May 26-30.
This marks the final opportunity for athletes to gain valuable World Cup points to qualify for the World Cup Final, where priceless Olympic Qualification spots will be offered. The World Cup Final is also an Olympic test event.
For the U.S. team, Rendy Lynn Opdycke (Mercer Island, Wash.) will compete on Thursday in semifinal Group A, and Suzanne Stettinius (Parkton, Md.) is in Group B. There are 56 women from 18 countries in the women's field.
The men's side will featuer 82 athletes from 24 countries and 3 semifinal groups. U.S. athletes competing are Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.), Dennis Bowsher (Dallas, Texas), Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo.) and Nathan Schrimsher (Roswell, N.M.).
The UIPM will broadcast the finals live on Pentathlon TV @ pentathlon.org on May 28 & 29. The broadcast will feature highlights of the fencing and swimming events as well as live coverage of the riding and combined event.
