2008 Olympian Margaux Isaksen
(Fayetteville, Ark.) found herself withing striking distance of the podium heading into the final event on Saturday at Modern Pentathlon's World Cup #3 in Budapest, Hungary, but she struggled in the last discipline and finished 27th.
Isaksen began the day placing 18th in the fencing competition with 17 victories, and went on to place 19th in the swim with a time of 2:20.77. A perfect ride in the equestrian portion of the event gave her 1200 points and put her in 15th place, just 1:00 behind the leader heading into the combined run/shoot, the day's final event. It was there that Isaksen had trouble, finishing 30th in the run/shoot with a time of 13:02.32 and dropping her to 27th in the final standings with 4992 total points.
Egypt's Aya Medany took the gold medal with 5452 points. She was followed by Germany's Lena Schoneborn with 5448 and Great Britain's Mhairi Spence with 5404.
