Sacksen 18th in World Cup Final

Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.) finished 18th in the Modern Pentathlon World Cup Final in London, England, on Saturday.

Sacksen, a 2008 Olympian, began the day with 15 wins in the fencing competition. He followed that with a swim time of 2:07.80, and a perfect ride in the equestrian portion which put him in 13th place just 51 seconds behind the leader heading into the final event, the combined run/shoot.
 
In the combined event, Sacksen turned in a time of 12:21.39 which dropped him to 18th in the final standings with 5468 total points. Hungary's Robert Kasza won the event with 5696 points and earned an automatic berth in the 2012 Olympic Games. The silver medalist was Russia's Aleksander Lesun with 5644 points and the bronze medal went to Great Britain's Nicolas Woodbridge with 5632 points.
 
The women's World Cup Final will be held on Sunday with American Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) among the field of 36. The top finsher will qualify for next summer's Olympic Games in London.
