Olesinski 13th at Youth A World Championships

American Anna Olesinski (Roswell, N.M.) vaulted from 49th place after the swim to finish 13th in the final standings in the women's individual competition at the Modern Pentathlon Youth A World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday.

Olesinski placed 21st in the fencing competion with 18 victories and ended the competition with the third-best time in the combined run/shoot. Her time of 12:06.94 trailed only those of gold medalist Tamara Vega of Mexico (11:41.79) and 4th-place finisher Marharyta Maseikava of Belarus (12:04.56). Olesinski ended the competition with 3912 points. Vega's winning point total was 4320.

In the men's individual competition, Lucas Schrimsher (Roswell, N.M.) was the top American finisher in 30th place with 4300 points. Aaron Lane (Farmington, Minn.) placed 76th with a total of 3476. Russia's Alexander Kukarin took home the gold with 4740 points.

After a day off on Saturday, the competition will conclude on Sunday with the relay events.
