Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center resident Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) won the silver medal on Sunday at the first modern pentathlon World Cup event of the 2010 season in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It marked her best World Cup performance since she won a silver medal in 2008 in Mexico City.
Isaksen, 18, finished 13th in the fencing portion, fourth in the swim, and tied for first in the riding, placing her in seventh place heading into the final event, the combined run/shoot. She was perfect in the second shoot and took first in the combined event, but couldn't chase down Olympic champion Lena Schoneborn of Germany. Schoneborn took the gold with 5476 points, followed by Isaksen's 5432. Russia's Evdokia Gretchichnikova won the bronze medal with a total of 5408.
After the event Schoneborn said "I couldn't believe how well I shot, but I had to if I wanted to win because I had the fastest women in Modern Pentathlon after me in Isaksen."
