Jun 11 Anna Olesinski 9th at Youth A World Championships

Anna Olesinski (Roswell, N.M.) had an outstanding second day of competition on Friday to finish ninth at the Modern Pentathlon Youth A World Championships in Uppsala, Sweden. After placing 44th on Thursday in the swim, Olesinski was 11th in the fencing with 20 victories, and then had the fourth-best time in the combined run/shoot with a clocking of 12:51.50 to give her 3844 total points.
 
Hungary's Zsofia Foldhazi won the women's title with 4104 points, followed by Russia's Gulnaz Gubaydullina with 3988 and Italy's Gloria Tocchi with 3968.
 
McKenzie West (Sedalia, Colo.) finished in 65th place with 2816 points. She was 49th in the fencing with 13 wins and 63rd in the combined with a time of 15:32.93.
 
Samantha Achterberg (Littleton, Colo.) placed 68th with a total of 2708 after finishing 68th in the fencing with five victories and 66th in the combined with a time of 15:57.00.
 
In the men's individual competition, Ryan Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top U.S. finisher in 74th place. He placed 72nd in Friday's combined event with a time of 13:17.31 to give him 3604 total points.

Andrew Wiggins
(Laurel, Miss.) finished 85th overall with 3124 points. He was 89th in the combined with a time of 15:22.33. 
 
Cory Cranford (Morrison, Colo.) totaled 2880 points to place 88th overall. Cranford was 90th in the combined event with a clocking of 15:38.66.
 
The Youth A World Championships continue through Sunday with the team and mixed relay competitions.
