Domestic Qualifying Competition this weekend begins road to 2011 Pan Am Games
USA Pentathlon will host the first of two domestic qualifying competitions this weekend in Colorado Springs. The second domestic qualifying event will be held in Palm Springs, Calif., on Jan. 9. The top 12 athletes of each gender from the two competitions will compete in the first World Cup event of 2011, held in Palm Springs on Feb. 24-27.
Results from the 2011 World Cup season will determine the U.S. squad that will compete at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in October.
This weekend's event begins on Saturday, Dec. 18, with fencing competition at 8:00 a.m. at the Olympic Training Center gymnasium. That will be followed by the swimming portion of the pentathlon at 11:00 a.m. at the Olympic Training Center Natatorium.
Three of the four members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team for modern pentathlon will be competing this weekend including Eli Bremer (Monument, Colo.), Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) and Sam Sacksen (Somerset, Pa.).
