USA Pentathlon National Team Arrives in Rome for Final World Cup
ROME, ITALY. The USA Pentathlon National Team arrived today (May 21) in Rome, Italy in anticipation of their competition on the final stop of the four city World Cup circuit. The results from this World Cup will determine who will qualify for the World Cup Final to be held this fall in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where the top 36 ranking competitors of each gender in the four World Cups will meet to determine who reigns supreme in the 2009 series.
Currently Margaux Isaksen leads the US effort with a solid tenth place ranking and seems assured of a spot in the World Cup final. This comes on the strength of two top ten finishes in Mexico City and Hungary earlier this spring. Isaksen did not attend the Cairo World Cup. On the men's side, Sam Sacksen is close with a 39th place ranking in the World Cup standings. Teammate Will Brady is within reach at 50th and a strong performance this weekend will allow him a shot at the top 36.
The men will start their semi-final qualification rounds at 0800 CET on Thursday (May 21) with the women competing on Friday (May 21). The finals events will be held on Saturday for the men and Sunday for the women respectively.
Follow the results at the UIPM website and on the USA Pentathlon RESULTS Page which will be updated periodically. As has been their policy in the past three World Cups, the UIPM will broadcast live streaming video of the men's and women's final riding and combined event competitions on Saturday and Sunday.
