Schrimsher and Olesinski Win Bronze in Youth A World Championship

CAIRO, EGYPT--The USA Pentathlon Youth National Team returned home from the Youth A World Championships from July 22 through July 26 with a bronze medal in the Mixed Relay competition.  Nathan Schrimsher and Anna Olesinski teamed up for third place finish in the two person mixed relay narrowly missing the silver medal won by the team from Poland.

 

Schrimsher and Olesinski started the day with a fencing performance of 24 victories and 28 defeats and swan to a ninth place finish with a time of 2:07.86.  They both caught fire in the combined event (second place) with Olesinski shooting a perfect fifteen out of fifteen targets and Schrimsher only missing one target causing them to move into first position until the final 1000 meters when they were edged out by eventual gold and silver medalists China and Poland.

 

Andrew Jayne provided a spectacular fencing performance on the first day of the competition in the men's individual event.  He blazed to a first place finish in his fencing pool, finishing with 20 victories out the thirty bouts for a fencing score of 972.  Teammate Lucas Schrimsher also fenced over 900 points and Andrew Wiggins in his first international competition swan a personal best of 2:09.52.

 

Anna Olesinski, coming off of her top ten finish in the European Open Youth B Championships, placed fifteenth (out of 54) in the women's individual competition. 

 

The men's relay team comprised of Lucas Schrimsher, Wiggins, and Jayne battled to a twelfth place overall finish in the hotly contested men's relay.  Coach Jan Olesinski was very impressed with the determination and spirit of the young US team who performed admirably in the 100 degree plus heat.
