Youth National Team to Cairo for World Championships

July 23, 2009, 8:12 p.m. (ET)

CAIRO, EGYPT-The men and women Youth A World Championships started today (July 23) at the Nasr City Sporting Club in Cairo Egypt.  For Youth A World competitions, the schedule of events depends upon the number of athletes on the start list.  The Swimming will be held today and the combined event will be contested tomorrow.  The fencing event depends on the number of entrants since there are no semi-finals.  A large number of entries will split the fencing into two days (men on Thursday and women on Friday), otherwise both fencing events will be held on Day 1.

The USA Pentathlon Men's Youth National team is represented by Nathan and Lucas Schrimsher, Andrew Jayne, and Andrew Wiggins.  Lucas Schrimsher is fresh off a strong showing in the European Open Youth B championships earlier this month in Portugal.  His brother Nathan was the Youth A gold medalist at the US Youth A National Championships in early June.  Andrew Jayne is fresh off of his competition at the Junior World Championships held two weeks ago in Kaohsiung City.  Andrew Wiggins made his debut at the US Youth A championships and featured a exceptionally strong swim in his performance in June.

The women are represented by Anna Olesinski of New Mexico.  Fresh off of her top ten finish at the European Open Youth B Championships, she looks forward to proving how strong she really is.

The Youth A team will be coached by Jan Olesinski of New Mexico.  Saturday will be an off day for the competitors with time being spent sight-seeing or relaxing.  A men's and women's relay will be held on Sunday as well as a mixed (one man, one women) relay.
