Nathan Schrimsher and Anna Olesinski place 3rd at Youth Olympic Games Qualification Event
The U.S. team enjoyed two third-place finishes on Sunday during the Pan American Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
During the Youth Olympic Games Qualification portion of the event, both Nathan Schrimsher (Roswell, N.M.) and Anna Olesinski (Roswell, N.M.) placed third in their repective divisions. Schrimsher totaled 4,584 points to finish behind Mexico's Abraham Camacho (4,792) and Manuel Padilla (4,604). Olesinski finished with 4,020 points to place behind Mexico's Tamara Vega (4,164) and Cuba's Laura Leidis Moya (4,064).
Other U.S. athletes in the men's division were Andrew Jayne (Reno, Nev.) who finished 16th with 3,736 points, and Ryan Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who placed 21st with a total of 3,448.
This qualification event was held to determine which athletes and their perspective countries would be invited by the International Olympic Committee to participate in the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in 2010. Only two athletes would be appointed winners from the Americas for Modern Pentathlon. Schrimsher won this coveted position for the USA and Mexico won the other appointment. Only 70 positions total for all sports are allowed for the USA. The U.S. Olympic Committee will determine which sports will be represented from the USA.
