Senior World Championships to be Held in London

LONDON, ENGLAND--The best pentathletes in the world are arriving in London for the Senior World Championships to be held here from August 12-17 at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in south London.  The US senior team led by national head coach Janusz Peciak will be represented by Margaux Isaksen, Dennis Bowsher, Will Brady, Eli Bremer, and Sam Sacksen.

Isaksen, the seventeen year old 2009 Junior World Championship bronze medalist (2008 Youth World Champion, Beijing 2008 Olympian), will be competing in her third consecutive senior World Championships.  This will be the first test for the men's team since the US National and NORCECA championships which were held in Rancho Mirage, CA in early June.  Dennis Bowsher will try to follow up on his gold medal performance at the US Nationals with a strong showing in London.  Teammate Will Brady is attending his first senior World Championships and is coming off a silver medal at the US National Championships.  Beijing Olympians Eli Bremer and Sam Sacksen are anticipating top performances in London.  In 2008, Bremer had the best US showing at the World Championships with a twelfth place finish in Budapest.  Sacksen was the top US finisher at the Beijing Olympics.

The opening ceremonies will be held at the Croydon Park Hotel at 1700 (British Standard Time) on Wednesday the 12th.  The men's semi-final group A will step onto the fencing strips the next morning at 0730.  The day will conclude with the last semi-final group lining up for the combined event at 1745.  Isaksen will compete in the semi-finals on Friday the 14th.  The men's final competition will be held on Saturday with the women's individual finals to be contested on Sunday.  There will be a relay competition held on Monday the 15th.   The complete schedule of events along with other information can viewed at the following link which is the official 2009 World Championship website.
