Sakura Takes the Bronze

Sakura Kokumai took the Women's Kata Bronze Medal at the 2013 World Combat Games in St. Petersburg.  Sakura defeated former World Champion Hoang Ngan Nguyen of Vietnam in the Bronze Medal match.  Sakura had previously defeated Ekaterina Kolotenkova of Russia in earlier competition and suffered losses to eventual finalist Yaiza Martin Abello of Spain and eventual Gold Medalist Sandy Scordo of France.  

Sakura was the only US athlete to compete on Day 1 of Karate competition with Tom Scott and Cheryl Murphy competing tomorrow for Team USA.
