The Pan Am Championships is the second largest tournament, just behind the World Championships, that USA Judo will be attending in 2017.

The 2-time Olympian and 2012 Bronze Medalist, Marti Malloy is looking to defend her title in Panama. "I am very excited to be heading to Panama for the Pan Ams in a couple weeks,” says Marti Malloy (-57kg). “The whole team has been training hard and pushing each other here at the camp in San Jose. I will be returning to defend my Pan Am title for the 4th year in a row and I am looking forward to building some good momentum for the rest of the year until Worlds."

Several younger athletes made the team this year as well, including -60kg Adonis Diaz. “I am excited for the opportunity to compete at the Pan Am’s again this year. This is my second time making the team and feel more prepared this time around. I have been training hard at the USA Judo National Team camp working on big throws and my newaza. I‘m ready to go, watch out for me.”

Ed Liddie, the Director of High Performance, is confident in the team’s ability to win medals. “We have a good team, with a mixture of experienced veterans and up-and-coming, talented young athletes. For most of these athletes, The Pan American Championships is the biggest tournament they will fight in this year. The coaches and staff are looking forward to follow the progress of this new group of athletes for the next four years.”
