After a recent successful performance in Greece and Spain by junior judokas, another group of kids head to Marcinelle, Belgium to represent USA in the International Bois Du Cazier. This venture is very important as USA Judo, for the first time, showcases an age category that had never participated in international events before.
“The performance by our very young age competitors at the Ilioupolis Cup in Greece should be an inspiration to all. Remember, the age parameters in Greece included birth years as young as 2007. That experience and exposure has let our youngest kids, along with their coaches and families to get a direct view of competition outside of the United States. With continued effort, we can look to these athletes and others coming along with them to make greater use of the opportunities that are available to us on an International scale” said Jim Hrbek, USA Judo’s Director for Junior Athlete Performance.
