Jr. World Team hits the road for Euro Tour

Eleven members of the 2014 USA Judo Junior World Team have traveled to La Coruna, Spain to begin a two-week tour that will include competing in two European Junior Cups as well as participating in two training camps. The team is led by two-time Senior National Champion, L.A. Smith III (San Jose State University) and 2014 Youth Olympian, Adonis Diaz (Ki-Itsu-Sai National Training). The first tournament, the European Junior Cup La Coruna begins tomorrow with competition in the following divisions: Female 44kg, 48kg, 52kg, 57kg, Male 55kg, 60kg, 66kg, and 73kg. The Female 63kg, 70kg, 78kg, +78kg, Male 81kg, 90kg, 100kg and +100kg divisions will be contested on Sunday. A three-day training camp will start on Monday. After the camp I completed, Team USA will head to Austria for the second leg of their trip. 

The athletes will use the experience they gain against some of the top junior judo players in the world as they prepare to represent the United States on home soil this fall at the IJF Junior World Judo Championships to be held in Ft Lauderdale, Florida October 22-26. Traveling with the team is head coach, Brett Wolf (Menomonee Judo Club USA Judo Paralympic National Training) and team manager, Richie Moss (Southwest Judo Academy). " We've sent a very talented and ambitious team to Europe. Each player will certainly benefit from the competition that they will face these two weeks. The goal is to have the team ready to peak and perform at their absolute best in October at the Junior World Championships. " Said Wolf.
