Bantams, Intermediate 1&2, Juvenile A, Juvenile B (Cadets) and IJF Junior
The 2014 Youth and Scholastic Nationals will provide a NEW OPPORTUNITY for our younger age group Champions. The highest placing American medalist in each weight division of the Bantam, Intermediate 1&2 and Juvenile A age categories will qualify to compete in one of FOUR events that are being made available to USA Judo athletes, in Europe. Each athlete who qualifies for, and competes in, any or all of the offered events will earn a “USA Judo National Team” designation for 2014.
The events that are available happen in the last section of the school year but our hope is that with four choices, it may be possible for each athlete to participate without impacting year-end testing. All of the events are scheduled before June 1 which is when Peak Season hits really hard and the plane fares increase dramatically. Please do not be put off by the idea of traveling to Europe because of anticipated expense. You are likely to find that there are many reasonable ways to make these trips.

Each person who is the highest placing United States citizen in each of the applicable age and weight divisions will be notified that he or she has qualified. USA Judo will use the email address that you have on file as part of your child’s membership record in the USA Judo data base. Please take the time to go to https://webpoint.usjudo.org/wp15/IntraLock/Login.asp so you can check to make sure your email information is up to date and accurate. There will be no other notification.
Each designee will be provided with an information packet and the option to accept or decline by a specific cutoff date. That packet will show the age and weight parameters and some rule differences that might include shorter or longer matches based on age, or the fact that drop seoinage is not permitted in some events. If you are interested, you should immediately get in touch with your travel agent, or if you prefer, do your own shopping on-line to determine the travel expenses likely to be incurred and to help make your decision.
We understand that children grow as they develop and, for this reason, you do NOT have to compete in the weight division at which you qualified. You may fight at the next higher weight if the spot is available.
In order to participate and to claim your “USA Judo National Team” designation for 2014 you will need to respond by the deadline to the addresses given you by the trip Manager who makes the contact.
