US Judo Stars Head To Pan American Championships
A star-studded team of U.S. elites is headed to the Pan American Championships in Ecuador in a little over three weeks with Olympic Bronze Medalist Marti Malloy making her first competition since taking silver at the prestigious Grand Slam Tokyo in November last year.
Malloy, 57 kg. (USA Judo Training Site, San Jose State University Judo/NYAC, San Jose, CA) has become a world power in the sport since taking the bronze in London at the 2012 Olympic. Since then she’s claimed a silver medal at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in August and a gold medal at the Grand Prix Miami in June, in addition to the silver in Tokyo.
Fighting alongside Malloy in the Pan American Championships will be two-time Olympian Travis Stevens, 81 kg. (USA Judo Training Site, Pedro’s Judo, Wakefield, MA), who climbed podiums at Grand Prix tourneys in Europe recently to take a gold and silver medal. Other top U.S. fighters on the roster include Olympian Nick Delpopolo, 73 kg. (Budokan Judo, Hialeah, FL), and Hannah Martin, 57 kg. (Jason Morris Judo/NYAC, Glenville, NY). See the complete ROSTER.
