Olympians Marti Malloy and Travis Stevens are among the eight U.S. elites headed to a Grand Slam in Tokyo this weekend.

Nearly 400 athletes from 55 nations are headed for the homeland of judo for one of the most competitive tournaments of the year with a purse worth $150,000 for those making the podium and big international ranking points for placing: a gold medal at a Grand Slam takes 500 points, compared to 300 at a Grand Prix.
