June 12, 2013 – Cuba’s elite judo athletes will arrive in Miami on Friday, June 14, to participate in the upcoming Grand Prix tourney slated to begin June 15 at the Trump Doral Golf Resort and Spa.

Cuba’s crème de la crème includes Olympic athletes, Oscar Brayson, +100kg, and Idalys Ortiz, +78kg, along with team members Jose Armenteros, -100kg, Roberto Almenares, -60kg, Gilberto Solar, -66kg, Magdiel Estrada, -73kg, Jorge Martinez, -81kg, Ivan Silva, -81kg, Asley Gonzalez, -90kg, Heidy Abreu, +78kg, Maria Celia Laborde Mestre, -48kg, Dayaris Alvarez Bermoy, -48kg, Yanet Acosta, -52kg, Anailys Dorvigny, -57kg, Maricet Espinosa Cortes, -63kg, Onix Aldama, -70kg, and Kaliema Antomarchi, -78kg. 

Grand Prix tournaments are nearly a necessity for anyone headed toward a World Championship tournament or the Olympic Games – Grand Prix Miami is also the first time athletes can collect points toward qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This tournament will draw the hottest judo competition from around the world.
